My Skincare Routine

Thegirlsclub

When I think back on my experience with skincare, I must say it isn't a pleasant one. As some of you may be aware if you have read my other Blog Post: My Skincare Story, I have suffered quite painfully with acne, which resulted with myself having to go onto a strong drug called roaccutane.

If anyone else is suffering or wants some top tips, and information then please check out my other blog post, I wish I had something like that to read from someone who had also gone through what I was.

But now I can happily say that the drug changed my life and I don't feel as insecure as what I did before. I look back at photos now and I cannot believe that my skin ever looked like that. But that's all in the past, its 2021 we now look to the future!

However, the one thing that I am still struggling with, and I think everyone does struggle with, is what products to use to help the skin to thrive the most. Since my skin has changed so much from being so dry on the medication, I have had to adapt my skincare a lot to co-operate with my current skincare problems now. Its only been around 4 months since I have finished my course of roaccutane, so I still have slight acne scarring that do get me down a bit, so now my mission is to find products that will not only help get rid of the scars, but won't damage my skin as well. (Let me tell you it is not an easy job)

But at the moment, I am quite happy with my skincare process as my scarring and acne is nothing like what it was before, so I must be doing something right :)

Right, enough of my rambling on and now to the fun bit.

The products that I am using that I recommend, but also the products I have tried and absolutely hated

  • La Roche Posay Micellar Water

Firstly everyskin care routine starts by taking off your makeup. TAKE YOUR MAKEUP OFF AS SOON AS YOU GET HOME/GO TO BED. Don't leave it on your skin for too long, especially not over night. AND DON'T USE MAKEUP WIPES PLEASE. They do nothing but strip your skin, so please please please throw those wipes away, especially if they're from the company SIMPLE, worst thing to put on your skin.

The brand that I love at the moment, and I used their hand cream when I was on roaccutane, is La Roche Posay. This brand is absolutely gorgeous, and their micellar water is one product I'm not sure what I would do without now. Its not too heavy and takes your makeup off instantly, its amazing !

  • Cerave Face Wash (Normal to Dry)

After washing the makeup off, now for the all important face wash. I have tried so many different face washes before going onto roaccutane hoping to clear up my spots, but the only cleanser that managed to make any difference was of course the Cerave one. Also, it was even better that there was a normal to dry option, as that was all what my skin felt like for 6 moths.

Now after being off the treatment I don't even want to dare use another cleanser, especially since I have found one that works. However, now my skin is not being influenced by medication and is going back to normal, I have to keep an eye on it to see whether it is dry, or oily, so then I can buy the correct Cerave cleanser I need.

When I am washing my face of a morning/night, I always use the double cleansing method. This is when you wash your face and apply to cleanser for the first time, then I wash it off with a damp flannel, then repeat the whole process again but wash it off with water and pat dry with a towel. This helps really clean my skin, whilst also allowing it to breathe (which is what we like to see)

  • Glossier Solution

Now this is a new product I have recently introduced into my skincare routine due to amazing reviews and results I have seen. This product is more or less an exfoliator, and apparently it is meant to help with acne scarring, which is now something that concerns myself. I want to get rid of the pesky scars ASAP, so I am very excited to see the results on my skin. So far I have had no problems, but I am not using the product every day when I was my face, I am using it every 2 days to let my skin get used to it first, then I might do it more regularly after a while.

  • Cetaphil Moisturiser

Now, the only moisturiser I trusted when being on roaccutane was of course the Rich Night Cream by Cetaphil. Because my skin was so dry I really need a rich, thick cream that would keep my skin moisturised and healthy through the whole day/night, and the cetaphil one was perfect. However now my skin is going back to normal, I don't need to use a rich moisturiser all the time as my skin is nowhere near as dry as what it was. So this is when I opted for the Cetaphil Moisturising Lotion. Its is just a perfect amount of thickness/coverage and it still gives me that hydration I need.

  • Kiehls Eye Cream

The perfect eye cream that is my holy grail is the Kiehls Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado. I don't even know why I love this product so much, well maybe because of how moisturising it is, and how it really helps my under eyes. I would not be able to live without this product as I use just a pea sized amount of it morning and night, and it lasts for AGESSSSSS. I couldn't recommend it enough !!!

  • Jade Roller

The perfect way to really get all the moisture from the oils and creams is to use a jade roller. They come in all different shapes and sizes for all different purposes. Now I just have a basic one that I use either at night or before Im getting ready to go out to either help the moisturise sink into the skin, or to define my face. I can always notice a difference after I use it, it is an amazing invention.

  • Vaseline

Now, when on roaccutane everyone always recommends to use Vaseline to help keep lips/elbows/nostrils nice and hydrated so they don't crack and start to bleed. I still use vaseline on the daily, but now I use it for a different purpose. Before I go to bed I put a swoop of it on my eyelashes to help keep them smooth and it also helps keep them strong and to lengthen them.

  • Glossier Lip Balm

Keeping my lips soft was the main priority for me on roaccutane. I would have to apply lip balm every hour because of how dry my lips were becoming, so to say I went through a lot of lip balms is an understatement. In the beginning I tried so many different balms looking for the long lasting moisturise I needed, however nothing compared to the Glossier Balmdotcom. These lip balms are not only fun/playful and smell good, but they work wonders on my lips. I could usually go a whole day with just one coat on them, it was AMAZING and they really did save my lips. So now I am still programmed to keep my lips hydrated and my go to is still of course the Balmdotcom.

I know that everyone is different, as no one skin is the same as another, however the one main piece of advice I can give you about skincare is this. When shopping for products to put on your skin, you must look for products that are FRAGRANCE FREE and have NON-COMODEGENIC on it. If it does not say both of these, then do not buy it, you will only be harming your skin more than helping it, and we don't want that do we !

All that is left to say is, look after your skin. Please !!!!!!
